Beer Garden

The Beer Garden is the perfect summer destination. Our huge decked area is dog friendly, provides a range of options for your function, and can easily accommodate for Melbourne’s temperamental weather. The Undercover Area is ideal for cocktail events, with a flexible arrangement for your number of guests and seating requirements. For larger groups, there is the option of opening our Beer Garden Bar, boasting easy access to 6 taps, a selection of bottled beer, wine and spirits.

The Beer Garden can accommodate up to 60 guests for a seated event, and up to 100 guests for a cocktail event. 

Bistro

The Bistro is a versatile space with easy access to the bar, and a cozy inviting atmosphere that is ideal for small or large groups. It is the perfect spot to settle in and watch your favourite sports on our screens and projectors. 

The Bistro can accommodate up to 70 guests for a seated event. 

Private dining room

The Private Dining Room is an intimate area that is fully sectioned off from the restaurant. It is a fully self-contained room with projector, personal sound system, split air conditioning and the famous Australian artist John Kelly's painting 'Alien Skull' adorning the wall. The Private Dining Room is the perfect space for anything from committee meetings to birthday parties.

The Private Dining Room can accommodate up to 20 guests for a seated event.  

Further Information

Music

Our music varies according to time of day, but it is generally relaxed, and set at a background level. During Summer, our resident DJ's are spinning tunes on Sunday afternoons. Come check them out!

Cakes

If you intend to bring a cake for your function, we can store it in our fridges until it is time for presentation. We do not provide the service of cutting and presentation, however we can supply you with a knife, plates and cutlery to organise it how you like. We recommend you bring your own candles, as we often misplace the house supply!

Decorations

If you would like to decorate a space for your function, please notify our staff when confirming your booking. We are happy for you to bring your own decorations, however there may be some constraints depending on your reserved space. We also ask you please limit decorations to ones which have minimal mess, so as to aid in our clean up.

Minors

Any guest under the age of 18 is required to be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times whilst on the premises.

Dogs

The Great Northern Hotel is dog friendly, and we encourage you to bring your pooches down for a visit! Follow us on Instagram (@dogs_of_gnh) to see some of the beautiful dogs who come to visit us. 

Due to health regulations, dogs must enter and exit though the Beer Garden gate on Pigdon Street.
